Rooms opened to the light and left mostly bare, so that a few considered pieces carry the whole house.

The tiled stair from below, with a hammered gilt console standing against the curved wall and a ridged ivory vessel on top of it.
Two framed landscape paintings above a plaster fireplace with a dark screen, a hammered copper basin on a stand in the foreground and tall earthenware vessels either side.
A spindle-backed timber chair with a woven rush seat standing against a plaster wall, a small dark-framed painting set into a shallow niche above it, and olive branches reaching in from the left.
The living room seen through the stair rail: a tan leather sofa, a low coffee table stacked with books, and dried pampas in a dark vessel against a latticed curtain.
Painted ceramic pots fixed to a curved stucco wall and planted with succulents and dried stems, a tiled stair curving above, a palm and the ocean beyond, and an arched timber door in the shade below.
Tall dried olive branches arching out of a ribbed cream vessel standing on a gilt table stacked with books, an oval iron-framed mirror on the plaster wall beyond reflecting a window, and an arched opening through to the terracotta-tiled floor at the right.
The talavera-tiled stair and its iron rail running past the gilt console, with the room opening out beyond.
Two tall arched panels painted with hillside villages above a bay, in carved gilt frames with scrolled crests, hung on a plaster wall above a tiled skirting, with leather-backed chairs at a table and dried grasses in a metal pitcher to the left.
The same room in late light, the curtains lit from behind, a lamp and the pampas in silhouette over the coffee table.
The tan leather sofa and its sheepskin seen past olive branches and pampas, the two conical lamps standing against a sheer curtain and the arched windows, and books stacked on the burr-figured table beyond a wrought-iron rail.
A burr-figured desk with a scalloped apron and dark handles against a pale wall, below a round porthole window looking out to palms and the sea, with a studded leather armchair drawn up to it and a linen curtain at the window beside it.
An octagonal wood-framed mirror on a white wall, a tall woven-textured urn of dried branches on the terracotta floor beside it, and the tiled stair rising at the right.
An oval mirror in a slim frame above the gilt console, dried branches arching out of a ribbed ivory pot, and a doorway through to the kitchen beyond.
The courtyard seen from inside through a sliding door: curved stucco walls, arched windows, and planted pots stepping down the wall.
A long brown leather sofa under a sheepskin against a wall of tall arched niches, a pair of conical metal lamps either side of it and a heavy earthenware pitcher on a stone plinth in the foreground, on a red patterned rug.
A plaster fireplace laid with logs, a wall of small niches holding glazed vessels above it, pampas in a woven pot, and a pair of rattan chairs on a red patterned rug.
A tan leather sofa with a cream sheepskin throw over one arm, below a row of narrow arched windows and beside a leaded window hung with a sheer curtain, two conical metal lamps on slender stands behind it and a burr-figured low table on fluted steel legs holding books, on a red patterned rug over terracotta tiles.
A tall striped terracotta vessel of dried olive branches on a scallop-edged gilt console, stacked books and a pair of dark candlesticks along the top, with a wrought-iron stair rail behind and the living room beyond.
